How to Make Your own gym at Home – 5 Must-Have Exercise Equipment

5 Exercise Equipment That You Should Have in Your own Home gym

Treadmill

A treadmill is a type of exercise equipment that allows you to walk or run in place. It is made up of a conveyor belt mechanism with a moving platform that is powered by a flywheel or an electric motor. When using it, you can control the speed at which the belt moves, so you can increase or decrease the rate according to your needs. Some models even have special control features, such as the amount of calories burned, heart rate monitors, and step counters.

It is a good piece to have in your home gym because it lets you multi-task. You can watch TV, listen to music, or read a book while on it, making your routine a bit less boring.

Stationary Bike

They say walking and running tend to strain the joints over time, so exercising on a stationary bike is a good cardio workout alternative because no undue stress and impact is put on the knees, ankles, and other joints.

Stationary biking is often recommended to obese people trying to lose weight as it lowers the amount of mechanical stress inflicted on the knees, hips, ankles, and back, as compared to running and walking.

There are two general types of stationary bikes, so you have to select which one is best suited for you.

The first one is the upright bike, which is the more common and standard type. It looks like a regular bicycle, with a seat and pedals, and you ride it just like riding a real one. The second type is the recumbent stationary bike, which is made up of a larger seat with a back rest, and pedals that are positioned in front rather than below the bike seat. It functions like a reclined bike for home exercise programs.

Even for about 30 minutes a day, stationary biking can help regulate your blood sugar, increase good cholesterol in your body, and lower your risk of high blood pressure.

Pull-up bar

Pull-ups are an effective workout routine that makes use of your own body weight. For a few dollars, you can get yourself a pull-up bar and mount it to your home gym’s door frame.

There are several benefits to doing pull-ups, including increasing your stamina and endurance, building your arm and upper body muscles, melting your extra body fat, increasing your grip strength, and strengthening your back muscles.

Punching bag

Exercising causes your body to discharge endorphins that can help better your mood, and one effective way to achieve this is to include some high-intensity routines to your workout, such as boxing.

You can hang a punching bag from a strong support beam or ceiling in your home gym, ideally in the center of the room, to have enough space for it to swing around when in use.

Exercise mat

When doing yoga and other floor exercises, it is best that you do these on an exercise mat to make your workout comfortable.

Choose an exercise mat that is adequately padded to provide the necessary protection for your elbows, knees, and back during your workout. It should be long and wide enough to accommodate your body when doing full-length routines. It also has to be portable, durable, and easy to clean and stash.
