Backpacking - The Dos and Don'ts of Backpacking

Backpacking is a practical way of traveling anywhere in the world. It is highly recommended to those that are on a tight budget. Even if you are not able to sleep on a soft bed in a luxurious hotel room, backpacking could provide you with the most authentic kind of experience that you would never forget.

When backpacking, it is not advisable to bring huge and heavy bags. A backpack is the only thing that you need. It should be of high quality, durable and long-lasting. It should be big enough to accommodate all the things that you need during your trip. You should bring with you comfortable pieces of clothing, first aid kit, cooking equipment, food and water and some electronic gadgets.

You might also need to bring tents, lotions, flashlights, toiletries, bug sprays, batteries, alcohol and garbage bags. These are useful when you decide to camp out instead of staying in an inn or a motel.

Before leaving for the trip, you might want to learn how to light a fire or set up a tent so that you are ready once you get to the place. Reading about the cities and countries included in your backpacking adventure would not hurt either. If you are aware with the basics of their culture and people, it would be less difficult for you to go along and cope with a foreign lifestyle.

A digital camera or video camera would also be great to have when backpacking. You would be able to take photos and videos of yourself and who ever you are with. Once you get home, you could create a scrapbook to document all the beautiful and breath-taking scenery you have been to.

You should be mentally and physically prepared before starting your adventure. You are not going to ride the most comfortable vehicles or check in at five-star hotels. You should be contented with getting the cheapest fares and rates out there.

Backpacking is all about opening yourself up to the world. It is all about getting away from the comfortable, secure and predictable life you have been living for years.
